How many packs are in a Pokémon booster box? Japanese, Korean and Chinese box sizes explained

"How many packs are in a Japanese box?" is a common search question. The answer depends on the type of set. Here is what the boxes we currently stock contain.
Japanese booster boxes
| Set type | Example (store) | Packs per box | Cards per pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main expansion | Storm Emeralda (M6), Aura Seeker (M7), Battle Partners (SV9), Cyber Judge (SV5M) | 30 | 5 |
| Special anniversary set | 30th Celebration (M6a) | 20 | 6 |
| High-class pack | VSTAR Universe (S12a) | 10 | 10 |
High-class packs hold more cards per pack. Examples are Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a), Terastal Festival ex (SV8a) and MEGA Dream ex (M2a), with 10 cards each. A MEGA Dream ex pack also guarantees 1 ex card. Some special sets use other sizes. For example, a Black Bolt (SV11B) pack has 7 cards.
Korean booster boxes
Most Korean main-set boxes we stock contain 30 packs. Examples are Mega Symphonia (M1S), The Glory of Team Rocket (SV10) and Violet ex (SV1V). The Korean VSTAR Universe box has 10 packs of 10 cards, the same as the Japanese version.
Simplified Chinese boxes
Chinese products use different formats. A Gem Pack Vol. 3 box contains 18 packs of 4 cards. The 151 C V4 "Gathering" holds 15 packs, and the Fearless Terastal Blister Box holds 24.
Box or loose packs?
A box gives you a complete sealed product. Loose packs let you try a set for less money. Either way, pack contents are random, and no seller can guarantee specific cards or pull rates. Browse booster boxes or booster packs. To check that a box is genuine, read how to spot fake Japanese boosters.
