About this set
  • Set name: Vending Machine Series 2 (Red)
  • Official Japanese name: Expansion Sheet

Set overview

Vending Machine Series 2 (Red) was released in Japan on 17 June 1998. Officially called Expansion Sheet, these cards were sold from vending machines as randomised sheets from which the cards were peeled. Series 2 has eighteen numbered sheets with three cards each, together with cardboard damage counters and coins, and each sheet always holds the same cards.

Notable cards

The cards use glossy card stock rather than the usual matte finish, and the sheets carry gameplay tips and adverts for other expansions. Some illustrations across the three series came from winning entries of the CoroCoro Pokémon Illustration Contest. Exclusive to Japan, Series 2 pairs naturally with Series 1 (Blue) in a vintage collection.
