About this set
- Set name: Base Expansion Pack
- Known outside Japan as: Expedition Base Set
Set overview
The Base Expansion Pack was released in Japan on 1 December 2001, the same day as the Card e-Reader, as the first expansion of the e-Card era. It has 128 cards, and outside Japan it is known as Expedition Base Set, released in English on 15 September 2002. The cards have wider borders carrying Dot Codes that the e-Reader could scan for Pokédex data, minigames and hidden attacks.
Notable cards
The set also introduced Technical Machine cards and split Pokémon Powers into Poké-Powers and Poké-Bodies. Holo rares in the English Expedition release include Charizard and Gengar. The distinctive e-Card design makes it one of the most recognisable sets of the early 2000s.
